THE COAST OF MOROCCO

As I mentioned in the post about the Fortresses of Morocco, the Portugal-Morocco: Gateways of the Mediterranean exhibition featured a significant audiovisual component. For that video, we had the collaboration of the Royal Gendarmerie in capturing aerial footage. It was during that occasion that I took photographs of the Moroccan coast and the fortresses, as shown in another post on this site.

We departed from Essaouira heading toward Tangier. At each fortress, several passes were made so that the camera operator, Jorge Meireles, could capture the necessary footage, which would later be complemented by shots that had mostly already been filmed on the ground.

We refueled at a pre-arranged location and continued our journey. We crossed the final stretch of the African mainland coast and of Morocco along the North Atlantic—a breathtaking landscape of contrast between the blue of the sea and sky, and the semi-arid terrain, increasingly marked by human presence as we approached the Mediterranean.
